They will be prepared to do taping, apply ice and basic first aid, as well as make decisions regarding the treatment of an injured athlete. Jim Early, nationally certified sports massage therapist who has been practicing for fifteen (15) years in the Mid-Atlantic region of the country, will be available this week on site and at the hotel for appointments. Jim accompanied Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps to Greece as his personal masseuse. Jim has worked with many high schools, collegiate, amateur and professional athletes including DeMatha High School, University of Pennsylvania, William & Mary, Princeton University, the U.S. Men’s' Rowing Team, the Philadelphia Wings and many pro tennis players at tournaments. Pre-match sessions run about 10 minutes for a muscle warm-up and stretch to get the blood moving. Inter-match sessions last 10 - 15 minutes and are designed to avoid fatigue and keep muscles fresh. Post-event sessions last 20 - 45 minutes and will flush out lactic acid and rejuvenate muscles for the next day. More information will be available at the tournament. Costs are reasonable. | COLLEGIATE RECRUITING ADVICE | Dede Allen is passionate about helping educate junior tennis players and their families about the “ins and outs” of college recruiting. Combining undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education, along with her experience as a teacher, then successful top 25 NCAA DI collegiate coach, as well as her extensive background with junior tennis – Allen is ultimately qualified to help families understand and find their way through the recruiting process. She served the USTA for over 15 years as the Association’s Administrator of USA Tennis Junior Competition and was its liaison to the NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA. Prior to joining the USTA she had been the Women’s Tennis Coach at Wake Forest University for 7 years, where she was named ACC Coach of the Year in 1987. She is the author of the USTA Guide for Prospective College Tennis Players (1998) and the Collegiate Guide for High School Tennis Players.
